Reflection

Over the last couple of weeks, since recommencing the Christmas Craft Fair trail, I have been reflecting on my work, my displays and the direction I want to take in the future with my metalsmithing.

Inspired, in part by some challenges, I concluded that I am keen to push my creativity and the 'art' aspect of my jewellery making. Thus far, I have enjoyed experimenting and trying out different techniques in silver, but as I am something of a butterfly when it comes to concentration, my experimentation and desire to experience as many different aspects of metal work, has resulted in something of an eclectic range of jewellery available on my stall. Not necessarily a bad thing, as there is plenty of choice, but I think that a degree more focus may be a positive step as I move into 2018.

I have already started planning my designs for 2018 and I am hoping to concentrate on three, possibly four distinct collections of jewellery. I'm not quite sure of the final options, but I am drawn to having a pure silver collection that focuses on the metal itself, using texture and form to explore and a family milestones collection that incorporates personalised items and bridal pieces. The other two are still to be decided, but let's just say that having received some enamels for my recent birthday, if my New Year experiments with it go well, enamelled pieces may feature too!
